PUBLIC HEARING NOTICE
ALLOCATION OF COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT, EMERGENCY SHELTER GRANT, HOME PROGRAM MONIES, AND GENERAL FUNDS FOR FISCAL YEAR 2008 (7/01/07-6/30/08) AND THE PROPOSED ANNUAL ACTION PLAN

The Berkeley City Council will conduct a public hearing addressing:
The allocation of about $3.6 million in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) monies to undertake housing related activities, improvement of public/community facilities, public services, and planning and administration. In addition, about $144,000 is available for homeless services and facilities under the Emergency Shelter Grant (ESG) and approximately $1.3 in HOME funds;
The Draft Annual Action Plan for Fiscal Year 2008 which will be submitted to the Department of Housing and Urban Development outlining the City's housing and community development program using the above federal entitlement grants; and
The allocation of about $4.8 million in General Fund monies for services and affordable housing to fight poverty and homelessness, and provide needed services for low-income youth, seniors, disabled, and other special needs residents.
Anyone wishing to speak at the public hearing must request a speaker card from the City Clerk at the start of the Council meeting up until closure of the hearing. Community agencies with multiple speakers may be requested to designate a single representative speaker to save time. Times allotted to speakers will be very brief.
A complete set of all proposals received and the Draft Annual Action Plan are available for public review at the reference desk of the Berkeley Public Library at 2090 Kittredge Street and at the Front Desk of the Housing Department at 2180 Milvia Street, 2nd Floor.
The Draft Annual Action Plan will also be online for public review and comment at
http://www.cityofberkeley.info/housing/communityaction2yr/ConsolidatedPlan.html. The public has until April 25, 2007 to submit written comments before the Annual Action Plan is finalized.
